João César Monteiro (Portugal, 1939-2003.) Director de cine, guionista y crítico de cine. Estudió en la Escuela de Cine de Londres. Formó parte del movimiento Novo Cinema. Es considerado junto a Manoel de Oliveira, uno de los directores de cine más importantes de Portugal. Introdujo en el cine portugués de ficción el concepto de antropología visual. Sus películas son polémicas y experimentales, con una estética muy cercana a la poesía. / Director, scriptwriter and film critic. He has studied at the Film School of London. He was part of the film movement Novo Cinema. He is considered together with Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most important directors from Portugal. He has introduced at the fiction portuguese film the concept of visual anthropologie. His films are polemic and experimental, with an aesthetics influenced by poetry.
